Materials
Solardome has pioneered the development of small scale glass and aluminium domes since 1969 and sells direct from its own design and manufacturing facility in the UK to customers worldwide.
Solardome is proud that our domes are eco-friendly, built to last and made from recyclable materials.
Solardomes are designed and built to stand up to the unpredictability of climate change, remaining robust and comfortable even in extreme weather conditions. This is due to the natural strength and aerodynamics of the geodesic dome. What’s more, our domes are constructed from non-corrosive and rot-proof materials meaning that only minimal maintenance is required.
Frame
We use mill finished aluminium for the frame and our external facing components are polyester powder coated exterior grade aluminium.
Fittings
None of our fittings will corrode or rust as they are made using high quality stainless steel.
Cladding
Domes for the education market are made with 4mm toughened glass cladding as standard. However, other materials can be used as an alternative to glass if required i.e. polycarbonate, UV reflective film, shatter proof acrylic or part obscured glass.
Secure
Solardomes are incredibly strong and are secured using a solid conservatory style locking door. Windows can be positioned at eye level or above as required and can’t be opened from the outside.
Maintenance
Solardomes require very little maintenance as there are no corrosive materials; no overlapping panes of glass to collect mould; and debris generally falls off a dome due to its shape. However, to keep it looking at its best we recommend a quarterly wash down. This can be done using a power jet, ladder and mop or an extended window cleaning squeegee set.
Environmentally friendly
Not only do Solardomes require less energy to heat them due to their unique sun trapping shape and 97% light transmitting glass, they are also great for hosting environmental experiments and teaching about sustainable living. Schools have designed all kinds of environmental projects to complement their dome, such as introducing wind turbines, solar powered water features and water collection tanks.
And whilst you need not worry about replacement for at least 30 years, you can be assured that all of our standard domes are over 98% recyclable. This makes them a valuable resource for all educational establishments aiming to embed sustainable development into school life.
